Second Month

Smores Bench on the lake
We are now in our second month in Pequot Lakes. Time has gone by fast! There are so many interesting things to see and do and lots of nice people in Minnesota.

The "seasonal" next to us had their 4 year old grandson with them for the weekend recently. He is a happy busy little guy and we all became fast friends. On Sunday morning there was a soft knock on our door. There was the little guy. He looked up at me with a sad face and said, "I have to go home now."  Although, only 4 he could whistle and was heard all weekend whistling outside. So, I asked him to whistle for me one more time. He smiled and let out a nice loud whistle! I hope he gets to come back another time this summer.

We visited Little Falls again and went to the Minnesota Fishing Museum. Lots of old fishing lures and motors. An old fishing cabin was set up and a display of ice fishing huts. People really enjoy ice fishing. A lot of people don't work in the winter because of the weather so they spend it fishing. We saw an interesting video of someone setting up an ice house, making a hole in the ice and actually spearing a fish.

There was an RV here in our park that when set up would lower completely to the ground. We had not seen one like this before. They explained to us that they purchased this one because in the winter they would take it out on a lake when it is frozen and camp in it to ice fish. It even has a removable floor so you can stay in the RV and fish! Much different than the early ice houses. They said that so many people do this that the lake looks like a village with hundreds of ice houses and RV's like there's on the lake. This can be done in January and February when the lakes freeze deep enough. Can't do that in Texas!!

We had to stop at the Black and White Café again for Walleye tacos. I am going to have to figure out how to make these at home - they are sooo good. Wonder if you can get Walleye at HEB????????

Cool temps
On a day off from camp hosting we took a drive in search of a place to rent a boat. Will be looking for a warm day  soon! We stopped for lunch at Moonlight Bay Restaurant. A nice place on a lake. A cool, sunny day, but nice enough to eat outside and enjoy views of the lake. Notice the pic of the bench by                                                                                                               the water - S'mores. It is very big up here….

We are enjoying going to the farmer's market on Thursday mornings. This week we got the first of their zucchini and strawberries.
Another cute bike rack.

  1. Looks like y'all are having better weather than we are -- except for the storms. Here in Lakewood, CO. we are looking at mid-80s again today, 73 tomorrow, then back into the 90s by Tuesday. I see a trip into the mountains, soon.

  2. Ice fishing might be interesting. I don't think I'm ready to try it yet though.
